Brentford dealt double injury blow ahead of Sunderland clash

The latest injury updates from Brentford ahead of their home game with Premier League rivals Sunderland on Saturday.

Brentford have been dealt a major injury blow as they prepare to host Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The Bees have made a promising start to their Premier League campaign after following up an impressive 3-0 home win against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season with a hard-earned draw at Leeds United last weekend. However, the latter of those results was secured without the services of key midfielder Mathias Jensen after the 32-times capped Denmark international picked up a knock ahead of the trip to Elland Road.

Jensen was initially expected to be ready to return to action in time to be in contention for Saturday’s home clash against Sunderland - but Andrews has stressed the former Celta Vigo man will remain out of action until the injury ‘settles over the next couple of weeks’. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, when asked if Jensen will be available, the Bees boss said: “No, he won’t be back. He has a little issue. He’ll miss this week and possibly next week. We’ll see how he settles over the next couple of weeks. It’s nothing serious, but he certainly won’t be available for tomorrow.”

Andrews also confirmed he will be without Josh Dasilva after he suffered a hamstring injury as Brentford Under-21s claimed a 5-1 win against their Sunderland counterparts earlier this week. He said: “That’ll knock Josh out until the international break. It’s nothing too serious, but it’s obviously disappointing for him as he’s making his way back to that type of level, intensity and the performance levels he needs to get to. That takes a little bit of time from where he’s been and the time out he’s had. It’s disappointing for him, we’re disappointed, but we’ll keep going and keep pushing Josh to get back to that level.”

Defender Sepp van den Berg will also remain out of action until after the upcoming international break and Antoni Milambo will also miss out on Saturday - although the former Feyenoord attacking midfielder is expected to step up his recovery from an ACL injury over the coming weeks.
