McKennie has half a season of Premier League football behind him having joined Leeds United in January 2023 but failing to prevent their relegation to the Championship.
Illing-Junior, meanwhile, has spent the last four years at Juventus after joining from Chelsea and has become a regular in the first-team. Newcastle United have previously been linked with a move for the England Under-21 international.
Kell Watts signs for League One side
Cambridge United have confirmed the signing of Kell Watts after the defender was released by Newcastle United. Watts spent last season on-loan at Wigan Athletic, but struggled for regular game time at the Latics and featured just 14 times in the league.
Speaking about joining Garry Monk’s side, Watts said: “I am buzzing to join. It’s time for me to make the next step in my career and from everything I’ve heard and learned about Cambridge United, I am convinced that this is the right place for me. It's a big challenge for me but one I am ready for.

Barcelona man ‘eyed’ by Newcastle United
Reports in Spain have suggested that Newcastle United are interested in signing former Manchester City winger Ferran Torres this summer. Torres has spent two and a half years at the La Liga giants after leaving the Etihad Stadium in January 2022. Torres famously scored a hat-trick against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United in a chaotic match which saw City edge out the Magpies in a 4-3 thriller behind-closed-doors.
