Carabao Cup fourth round draw: Sunderland & Newcastle United's possible opponents and draw details

Sunderland will enter the Carabao Cup fourth round draw on Wednesday night.

Sunderland’s focus on Wednesday night will be on their historic Europa League home tie against Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar.

However, there could also be one eye on the Black Cats’ bid to secure major domestic silverware for the first time since 1973 as the draw for the last 16 of the Carabao Cup takes place. Regis Le Bris’ side earned their spot in the draw with a narrow home win against Premier League rivals Hull City last week as a neat finish from Chemsdine Talbi edged out the Tigers at the Stadium of Light. But what do we know about Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fourth round draw?

What has Regis Le Bris said about the Carabao Cup?

Speaking after Tuesday’s win, the Black Cats head coach gave an insight into how he views the Carabao Cup as he balances it alongside the demands of the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup. He said: “With this competition, I think we go step by step. These guys showed today that they are competitive. We played with 11 new players, which means that we have eleven others from the game against Brentford. So we have 22 at the minute and with that we can play every competition. With injuries we'll see but at the minute we're happy to go forward.”
