A woman in her 70s has sustained serious injuries after being hit while she crossed the road with her dog on Saturday morning.

A cordon was in place on the morning Saturday, October 24, after a car travelling down Sea Road in Fulwell towards Chichester Road collided with the woman who was using a walking stick as she crossed the road.

Northumbria Police are appealing for information as the woman remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency services attended and found the woman – aged in her 70s – had sustained serious injuries. She was taken to hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

A number of enquiries have taken place since the collision to better understand the circumstances, including the moments leading up to the collision.

Officers from Northumbria Police’s Road Policing team are now asking anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and witnessed anything to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via direct message on Northumbria Police’s social media channels or submit a report form on the Force’s website.
