Granit Xhaka issues clear social media message to Sunderland fans after Leeds United stalemate

The Sunderland captain took to social media after Sunday’s goalless draw with Leeds United at the Stadium of Light

Granit Xhaka believes Sunderland are on the right path after their goalless draw with Leeds United at the Stadium of Light.

The Sunderland captain took to Instagram following Sunday’s Premier League encounter, sharing a series of photographs from the match alongside a short message to supporters.

Sunderland had to settle for a point in difficult conditions on Wearside, with neither side able to find a breakthrough. James Trafford denied Brian Brobbey and Nilson Angulo, while Robin Roefs was also called upon to help preserve Sunderland’s clean sheet.

The result offered some encouragement after Sunderland’s recent league struggles, although Régis Le Bris’s side still need victories to improve their position. “We fought, we’re on the right path. We keep going,” Xhaka wrote on Instagram after the game, adding red and white heart emojis.

Xhaka’s post prompted a mixture of responses from supporters, with several welcoming the commitment shown against Leeds while stressing the importance of turning performances into wins. One fan wrote: “Much better, that’s the heart and desire we want to see on a weekly basis. Need wins though….”

Angulo was among Sunderland’s brighter performers, providing a threat from the left, while the clean sheet gave Le Bris something to build on defensively, though Leeds United still enjoyed chances during the contest. Failure to score meant Sunderland were unable to turn those positives into three points. Xhaka’s message made clear his belief that the team are moving in the right direction, with the challenge now to produce the results to match.
