Air ambulance called after man found with serious head injuries in Sunderland street

The helicopter landed close to Sunderland University Metro Station this afternoon, Monday, November 23.
The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital by road.

Hide AdA section of Chester Oval, close to the university’s Chester Road campus, remains taped off and officers are at the scene.
There is no word on the man’s condition at this point.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson confirmed an investigation was under way into how the man had come by his injuries and appealed for anyone who could help to come forward as soon as possible: “Shortly after 2pm today (Monday) we received a report of a disturbance at an address in Alexandra Court, Chester Oval, Sunderland,” he said.
“Officers attended and found a man in the street with serious head injuries. Emergency services including the Air Ambulance attended the scene and Chester Road was temporarily closed, but has since reopened.
“Enquiries are ongoing into the nature of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log 560 231120.”

Hide AdA North East Ambulance spokesperson added: “We were called to a report of a person injured in the Chester Oval area of Sunderland.
"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance, a specialist paramedic and an officer and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
"We transported one person by road to hospital.”
