Is this when the 2020-21 League One season will start? Peterborough United chief makes EFL plea

The EFL held its AGM on Monday and one of the items understood to be on the agenda was next season but details are yet to emerge over a concrete date for when League One and Two will likely be able to start again after this season was ended early following a vote by clubs.

Posh chief Barry Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph: “It still hurts a bit, but not as much as it did.

“It’s gone now. There is no point in wasting any more energy on the past.

“Our best response is to work hard on winning the title next season.

“It won’t be easy as we will still be battling against some big clubs and the financial circumstances for all clubs will be tough, but we might still be better off than most thanks to the backing of the owners.

“It would be good to know from the EFL when we can start again though. We’ve heard start dates of August 22 and September 12, but nothing has been said officially.

“Our manager wants the players back for eight weeks of pre-season training which seems tough, but then you remember even if we started in early August it would be six months since the players played a game.”

Sunderland and Posh both missed out on a play-off place due to the points-per-game formula used to decide the table.
