‘We will keep fighting’ – Brian Brobbey sends passionate message to Sunderland fans amid relegation fears

Brian Brobbey has vowed to keep fighting for Sunderland as the striker sends a message to fans amid relegation fears

Brian Brobbey has told Sunderland supporters “we are not done yet” as the striker committed his future to the club amid growing concerns over their Premier League position.

The Netherlands international has signed a new deal until 2031, providing a boost during a difficult spell for Régis Le Bris’ side. Sunderland sit bottom of the Premier League with five points from nine matches following their defeat at Coventry City. Their domestic cup and European campaigns have offered encouragement, but improving league results remains the pressing priority.

Brobbey’s commitment comes after a memorable first season on Wearside, during which Sunderland qualified for Europe. Asked to reflect on that achievement, his winner at Newcastle and his stoppage-time goal against Arsenal, the striker delivered a determined message. “I think everything that you mentioned was really nice, and we are not done yet; we will keep fighting.”

That answer came while looking back at Sunderland’s recent achievements, but the sentiment will resonate with supporters desperate to see their side recover from a disappointing league start. Brobbey also highlighted the difference those fans make, describing their backing as an incentive to push himself further.

Asked what had stood out about the supporters and their connection with the club and city, he said: “How loud they are, when we are playing; you can see that football really matters here.” On hearing the supporters chant, he added: “It’s giving you an extra boost to go harder; I hope they will keep doing that.”

The 24-year-old said the confidence shown in him across the club was central to what signing his new contract meant. “It means a lot. The trust from the club, also from the players, the coaching staff, it means a lot for me.” Reflecting on his first Premier League season with Sunderland, Brobbey said: “It was a really great season with the fans, everybody behind us. I really enjoyed it, I really enjoyed it.”

The striker admitted the achievements of that campaign had exceeded his expectations when he arrived from Ajax. “Obviously, we were new in the league, we just got promoted, so I didn’t know we would get this far. So, it was beautiful.” His development has extended beyond the pitch, with the people around him helping him settle into life on Wearside. “I grew as a new player, I met a lot of new people here, that made me feel at home.” Asked what he hoped to have achieved when looking back in 2031, Brobbey added: “A lot, that we can go as far as possible with the club.”

Brobbey being fit and available provides a timely boost for boss Régis Le Bris ahead of Sunderland’s next two fixtures against Dinamo Zagreb and Chelsea. The striker gives Sunderland a physical presence up front as they look to maintain their encouraging Europa League form before addressing their well-documented Premier League struggles. Having him available offers Le Bris an important attacking option during a significant week for both the head coach and Sunderland.
