‘Something truly special’: Sunderland nursery praised in first Ofsted report
A Sunderland nursery is celebrating after receiving an “outstanding outcome” in its very first Ofsted inspection, just 13 months after opening.
Nurserytime, in Goschen Street, Sunderland, received a “strong standard” in achievement, behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines, children’s welfare and wellbeing, curriculum and teaching, inclusion and leadership and governance – the second highest of five grades.
According to Ofsted inspectors, children arrive at this nursery “happy, settled and excited to learn”.
The report states: “They quickly form positive bonds with their key person and this ensures they feel safe and secure.

"Staff warmly greet families everyday and take time to know them individually.
"This means they know children very well and can support children to explore with confidence and engage in a wide range of learning opportunities.”
Inspectors praised this “inclusive” setting for ensuring all children receive the support they need to “enjoy every aspect of nursery life”.
The report continues: “Children develop a real sense of belonging within their local community and how to keep themselves safe.
"They regularly visit a local care home as well as meeting local police officers and firefighters, and learn about how to cross the road safely.
"Children enjoy celebrating their own unique qualities and those of others.
"They make friends and develop their skills in playing games and taking turns.”
As part of the nursery’s “next steps”, Ofsted said leaders should continue to support all new staff members “to embed high-quality practice” and ensure this has a “transformational and sustained impact on children’s learning and wellbeing”.
Helen Coulson, nursery manager at Nurserytime Sunderland, said: "We are absolutely delighted and incredibly proud of this achievement.
"To receive such fantastic recognition in our very first Ofsted inspection, having been open for just 13 months, is something truly special.
"This success belongs to our amazing team whose hard work, dedication and passion shine through every single day.
"We are so proud of the environment we have created and the relationships we have built with our children and families.
"Most importantly, this is about the children.
"We want every child who comes through our doors to feel safe, happy, valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
"This report gives us even more motivation to continue providing the very best care and education."
