In-form MLS striker 'on the radar' of Sunderland, Everton and Crystal Palace ahead of January transfer window
The latest transfer talk from Sunderland as the Black Cats are linked with a move for an MLS striker.
Sunderland are reportedly showing an interest in the nephew of a player that provided one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history.
talkSPORT have named Sunderland as one of three Premier League clubs that have placed Minnesota United striker Kelvin Yeboah, nephew of former Leeds United star Tony Yeboah, ‘on their radar’ ahead of the January transfer window. The 26-year-old joined the MLS outfit from Serie A side Genoa during the summer of 2024 after spending time playing for clubs in Belgium, Austria and Germany earlier in his career.
Yeboah has plundered his way to 40 goals in 88 appearances for Minnesota and has impressed with 18 goals in 32 MLS games so far this season despite his side sitting in the bottom four of the Western Conference table. With Sunderland looking to improve their attacking options during the January transfer window, talkSPORT have claimed the Black Cats, Everton and Crystal Palace are all monitoring Yeboah but will face competition from ‘a number of European clubs’.

The former Italy Under-21 international will not have to look far for advice over life in the top flight of English football after his Uncle Tony Yeboah scored 32 goals in 66 appearances for Leeds during the mid-1990s. The former Ghana international produced one of the most iconic goals in the history of the Premier League with a stunning, long-range volley against Liverpool in August 1995 and also struck a memorable effort as part of a hat-trick against Wimbledon just weeks later.
Yeboah discussed his relationship with the former Whites star and his goal against Liverpool when he initially joined Minnesota, telling the MLS website: “The one he did for Leeds United where it hit the crossbar, hit the ground, hit the crossbar again and it goes in – and he did that two or three times,. They say the first time is luck, the second time he meant it. So we watched a lot of highlights. I was pretty young when he was playing, so I didn't get to see him in real life. But now he gives me advice. For example, my career coming over here, I spoke to him about making the decision. Having his support strengthened the decision.”
