Sunderland's 14-player UEFA list reveals which youngsters could follow Timur Tutierov's Europa League breakthrough

Felix Scott and Tom Proctor are among Sunderland’s European options after featuring against Brentford, while Timur Tutierov has already made his mark

Timur Tutierov has already scored for Sunderland in Europe – and two youngsters involved in their Carabao Cup victory over Brentford are also registered for Europa League football.

Felix Scott made his senior debut as a stoppage-time substitute in the 3-2 win, while Tom Proctor came off the bench for the closing stages. Both feature on UEFA’s published squad list through its List B system.

Tutierov has shown what those opportunities can bring. The forward scored his first senior Sunderland goal in the second minute of October’s 1-1 draw at Lech Poznań, heading home Nilson Angulo’s cross.

For Régis Le Bris, List B provides additional options without those players taking places in his main European squad. However, being young enough is only part of the qualification process.

Which Sunderland youngsters are listed?

UEFA’s current squad page identifies 14 Sunderland players as List B registrations. Grouped by UEFA’s positional categories, they are:

  • Goalkeepers: Ben Metcalf and Joseph Cowan.
  • Defenders: Jenson Jones, Joe Neild, Ben Kindon and Archie Lightfoot.
  • Midfielders: Charlie Dinsdale, Jack Whittaker, Liam Hunt and Felix Scott
  • Forwards: Timur Tutierov, Finn Geragusian, Trey Ogunsuyi and Tom Proctor.

Chris Rigg appears separately without the List B marker and is therefore not included in that total.

How does List B work?

For the 2026-27 competition, players must have been born on or after January 1, 2005, and satisfy UEFA’s requirements concerning their time at the club. The usual route requires an uninterrupted two-year period of eligibility since their 15th birthday. Alternatively, players can qualify through three consecutive years, including a maximum of one loan to another club in the same association lasting no longer than a year.

There is also provision for 16-year-olds who have been registered with their club for the previous two years without interruption. Clubs can register unlimited eligible List B players during the season, submitting the list by 11.59pm CET the day before a match. That means the published group can change as the campaign progresses. Registration does not guarantee selection. It does, however, give Le Bris scope to call on academy players alongside his established European options.
