Sunderland vs Middlesbrough: TV coverage, Sky Sports details and how to watch for £14.99
Sunderland continue their campaign with a home contest against Middlesbrough this weekend.
Sunderland will look to bounce back from their late disappointment against Plymouth Argyle last weekend when they host Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light on Saturday lunchtime.
The Black Cats slipped to a first defeat of the Championship campaign at Home Park, conceding a decisive stoppage time goal that ultimately denied them a point on their travels. Next up is a stern test in the form of local rivals Boro, who themselves dropped points against Preston North End in their most recent league outing.
Michael Carrick’s men have taken eight points from their opening five matches, and currently lie 10th in the table after a mixed start to the season in which they have won just two of their opening quintet of fixtures. Reflecting on his side’s performance against Preston, the Boro boss said: “I think we should have won the game. We were in a good position to win the game and created enough opportunities to score more. We didn’t give a lot away again so there are a lot of good things in there that will benefit us over time.

“I said it to the boys, it’s about killing teams off when we’ve got them. We were 1-0 up and were in a good place to push for the next goal and be really positive. It probably drifted for five or ten minutes, we felt. It’s a different game second half when they have something to hold onto. Towards the end when teams go man for man and are there to stop us, we have to adapt and find ways of breaking them down. We tried and I thought there was a lot of good attitude and application, we just couldn’t quite find that extra pass at the end.”
