Régis Le Bris confirms Sunderland team news latest ahead of Chelsea clash

Sunderland are back in Premier League action against Chelsea on Sunday

Régis Le Bris is hopeful that Nordi Mukiele will be back to face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Mukiele was forced off in the second half of Sunderland’s 0-0 draw with Leeds United after suffering a concussion in a clash with team mate Luke O’Nien, and has been going through the relevant protocols since then. Sunderland are hopeful that he will be available to start at the Stadium of Light, depending on the final stages of his recovery.

Omar Alderete is suspended after picking up a red card in the latter stages of the defeat to Coventry City last weekend, but the Sunderland head coach said there were no fresh injury concerns following the 2-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night.

Le Bris said: “Nordi should be available. We have no new injuries from last night, which is good news.”

The Sunderland head coach also confirmed that Thomas Meunier was in contention to start despite coming off at half time in the Europa League defeat. Le Bris made four changes at the interval but Meunier’s was not tactical, with Le Bris confirming that he wanted to manage his workload ahead of Chelsea’s visit to the Stadium of Light.

“The substitution at half time was a bit different for Thomas,” Le Bris said.

“This was planned before the game just to manage his load for Sunday.”
