Sunderland restaurant which gained national recognition announces closure
It was recognised three times amongst the best in the country.
A city restaurant which gained national recognition for the quality of its food has announced its closure.

North, along with Ember, became the first two Sunderland restaurants to make it into the overall Good Food Guide in 2025.
The seafront restaurant also made it into Britain’s 100 Best Local Restaurants in the prestigious guide that year and again this year.
However, North, which specialised in small plates, brunch, seafood and more, has sadly now announced it is gearing up for its final service.
The restaurant, which transformed a once empty storage unit at the far end of Seaburn promenade four years ago, has been for sale for some time and is still listed for sale with Rook Matthews Sayer with a Leasehold of £79,950.
It had been operating as usual throughout the sale, but now the team has announced the final service will be Saturday, November 21.

Posting on social media, a statement reads: “ Well, that’s it folks. You’ve got just over 2 weeks to come and see us one last time before we close our doors forever.
“Our last day of service will be Saturday 21st November. We’re sad to go but after 4 years it’s time to say goodbye.
“We’ll always be proud of being the only Sunderland restaurant to make The Good Food Guide’s Top 100 UK Restaurants (not only once but twice) and we’ve loved serving (almost) every single one of you.
“Bookings recommended but walk ins welcome if there’s space. See you up NORTH.”
Mexico 70 and Koji, both in High Street West, also recently announced their closure, with all three restaurants operated by the same team.
Many took to social media to express their sadness at the loss of one of the city’s best quality restaurants.
One diner said: “So sad as you’ve been an amazing refreshing breath of fresh air with fantastic cuisine and amazing people”
Another said: “Such a shame, great place. “
