'Positive' – Trai Hume delivers honest Sunderland verdict after Leeds United stalemate amid Storm Boelo
Trai Hume reflected on Sunderland’s response against Leeds United as strong winds complicated a hard-fought contest at the Stadium of Light.
Trai Hume believes Sunderland rediscovered their defensive resilience against Leeds United, but felt they could have taken more than a point from the goalless draw.
The Black Cats ended a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats on Sunday at the Stadium of Light, moving onto five points from eight matches after beginning the day bottom of the table.
Brian Brobbey and Nilson Angulo were denied by James Trafford as Sunderland produced an improved performance in strong winds. The result followed Thursday’s 1-1 Europa League draw at Lech Poznań. Hume welcomed the response but believed Sunderland had opportunities to win.
“No, I think, especially in the first half, I think we probably had the better of the chances, and we were creating more. Brian had a great chance that, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to take,” he said. “But I think the conditions definitely played a part in the standard of the game. I think both teams probably know we can probably play football a bit better, but you have to play the conditions, and the wind was definitely going to affect it.

“I think today, especially over the start of the season, you probably saw that we were aggressive, we were pressing, and we probably missed that a little bit throughout the start of the season. We were defensively stronger than what we have been, and that’s definitely a positive to take. It’s definitely better getting a point on the board than losing, but I still think we probably could have got more.”
