A yellow weather warning remains in place until 9pm tonight, Sunday, October 25, as the second named storm of the season continues.
In Sunderland, the Met Office recorded strong winds of 53mph, with sandstorms on Roker and Seaburn.
In the city centre, it was business as usual, however, bricks did fall from shops next to The 3 Stories in High Street West.
Several attractions were also affected by the weather, including Beamish which was closed today as well as last night’s Horror Car Wash at Sunderland Live, formerly Rainton Meadows Arena, cancelled.
Rail travel was disrupted across the region, including Tyne and Wear Metro services being suspended on Sunday morning due to fallen trees on the overhead line at Felling and at Hebburn.
Services were also suspended between Monument and South Shields for several hours on Sunday but have since resumed.
Meanwhile, the Shields Ferry service was also suspended.
And at Newcastle Airport, several flights were unable to land safely and had to be diverted.
