Régis Le Bris issues early Nordi Mukiele update and verdict on Sunderland's draw with Leeds United

Sunderland drew 0-0 with Leeds United at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon

Régis Le Bris admitted his Sunderland side had not do enough to beat Leeds United on Sunday but said their togetherness and organisation was a step in the right direction.

The Black Cats played out a 0-0 draw against Leeds United in 50mph winds as Storm Boelo battered Wearside, and though they remain bottom of the early Premier League table they did at least bring an end to their run of four successive league defeats.

The game yielded few chances for either side, with Sunderland perhaps having the better of the contest before a late rally from Leeds United. Le Bris said it was important to produce a 'Sunderland' performance and to cut out the big errors from recent games, which they did.

"Yeah, it's a tight game," Le Bris said.

"It's a good team, they built momentum at the beginning of this Premier League. We struggled, we are struggling a little bit. The most important thing was to be Sunderland. I think we showed intensity, togetherness, consistency. We avoided those unforced errors we committed probably in the last games. It was important to be really disciplined, consistent and waiting for the opportunity. . After that, the weather wasn't easy to manage, but we showed on the ball some great things.

"We created small chances, but it wasn't enough to win it," Le Bris added.

"If you look at Bournemouth, it's just a question of cheap mistakes so we didn't commit one here. I think it's important in this Premier League, don't give gifts to the opponent because it's so hard to win games. It happens, but you have to learn quickly.

"At least against Poznan and now against a good team, Leeds, we showed more consistency."

Le Bris also confirmed that Nordi Mukiele is fine despite being forced off early in the second half with a throat injury. Mukiele was caught by Luke O'Nien's flailing arm as the pair challenged for a long ball, and after a lengthy period of treatment and consultation with the staff was replaced by Omar Alderete.

The Sunderland head coach eased any fears of a significant issue for the defender, saying that the Frenchman was 'good' after the game.
