The 26-year-old forward was the first summer signing through the door at the Academy of Light as Parkinson reshapes his squad ahead of a promotion challenge, with Sunderland seeking promotion from League One at the third time of asking.

Parkinson was pleased to land the former Millwall forward and has praised his hunger and desire to be a success on Wearside.

The Sunderland boss has also highlighted the key attributes he will bring to the side, with his ability to turn the opposition and stretch them in the final third key.

“We’re really pleased with the signing of Aiden,” said Parkinson.

“He’s a good age, he’s been promoted from League One before and he has experience playing Championship football.

“Aiden can play in a variety of attacking roles for us and that’s something I think is important, and we’re really looking forward to working with him.

“He’s good at making runs in behind and stretching the opposition, and I think that’s something the squad needed.

“His hunger and desire to come and join us was key for me.

“I want players to come here for the right reasons and get ready to fight tooth and nail to help us have a great season.

“He has a real eagerness to be part of this club and he can't wait to get started."
