Leeds United could miss out on an £11m financial boost as Borussia Monchengladbach reportedly made a decision of on-loan Whites defender Max Wober.

The former RB Salzburg and Sevilla defender joined Leeds in a £9m deal in January 2023 but was unable to help the Elland Road outfit avoid relegation from the Premier League. After receiving interest from a number of clubs last summer, Wober made a season-long loan move for Monchengladbach and has endured mixed fortunes during his time in Germany.

Speaking after completing his move to the Bundesliga club, Wober said: “Borussia is an absolute traditional club that has always been very interesting for me and which I liked to watch, also because many Austrians played here. It is an extremely attractive task that I am very much looking forward to.”

The Austrian international has made 24 appearances in all competitions so far this season and was widely expected to complete an £11m permanent move to Monchengladbach this summer. However, German outlet Rheinische Post have now claimed the Bundesliga outfit believe they can get ‘better for less’ after reassessing their summer transfer plans in the wake of their recent German Cup exit at the hands of Saarbrucken last month.

Boro boss responds to goalkeeper speculation

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick is paying no attention to speculation linking goalkeeper Seny Dieng with a move to Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

The five-times capped Senegal international has firmly established himself as Carrick’s number one stopper after moving to the Riverside Stadium in a £2m deal from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers last summer. Dieng’s form has reportedly sparked interest from Newcastle, Palace and La Liga club Sevilla - but Carrick has stressed his is not bothered by transfer talk surrounding any of his players.

He said: “That’s (the speculation over Dieng) the nature of the beast. I don’t take too much interest in anything like that. We know the squad we’ve got, the players we’ve got and what they’re capable of. In terms of who is linked with who and what’s going on, it doesn’t bother me.”

Sky Blues boss assesses promotion points target

Mark Robins has claimed Coventry City will have to improve on the stunning form that forced them into last season’s Championship play-offs if they are to claim a top six finish before the end of the current campaign.

With seven games of the season remaining, the Sky Blues are sat one place and four points adrift of the play-off spots - but do have the benefit of holding a game in hand on sixth placed Norwich City. With a crucial run-in lying in wait, Robins has claimed matching last season’s form will not be good enough for his side.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s home game with Leeds United, the former Manchester United striker said: ”We got 13 points from the last seven games, which took us to 70 points. That won't be enough. We’ve got to put a serious run together to challenge the top six; we have three more points than this time last year."
