Northern League: Lewis Dodds named as new Sunderland RCA manager
Sunderland RCA have confirmed their new manager ahead of their visit to Northern league Division Two rivals Park View.
Northern League club Sunderland RCA have confirmed Lewis Dodds has been appointed as their new manager.
The former Spennymoor Town and Shildon midfielder has been in caretaker charge in the aftermath of the departure of former boss Mark Forrest last month and guided RCA to four points in their last three games. That has been enough to earn Dodds a chance to take on the role on a permanent basis and he has been quick to confirm his backroom staff ahead of Saturday’s visit to Division Two rivals Park View.
Clayton Davis, Paul Wilkinson and Neal Atkinson will all form part of Dodds’ coaching ranks and Rebecca Cusack will take on the role of physio as they look to help the club kick on after a challenging start to the new Northern League season. Club chairman Stephen Carter believes Dodds’ ‘commitment, passion and leadership’ and understanding of the challenges in the Northern League will help him become a success during his time in charge.
He told the club website: “The committee and I are delighted to appoint Lewis Dodds as first team manager of Sunderland RCA. Lewis has already shown his commitment, passion and leadership during his time with the club, and his previous Northern League experience gives him a real understanding of what it takes to be successful at this level. We wanted someone who knows the league, understands our ambitions and shares the values we are building at Sunderland RCA. There’s a saying that ‘Dodds delivers’, and we believe Lewis has the character, experience and drive to deliver both on and off the pitch as we continue moving the club forward.”
Dodds added: “I’m delighted to be offered and accept the role, the chairman and board have been great during this process so thanks to them. Since Mark brought me in last year I’ve seen everything that makes RCA a special club. I’d like to thank Clayton, Wilky and Acky for their support during the last few weeks and I’m confident we can push on and achieve the success the club deserves this season.”
