Here, we round-up all the latest stories that have emerged surrounding Newcastle United:

Ex-Newcastle United man ‘rejects’ international job

Former Newcastle United and Aston Villa defender Habib Beye has reportedly rejected the opportunity to become Senegal manager. Beye is currently unemployed after ending a successful three-year spell as Red Star FC manager earlier this summer.

Under Beye’s guidance, Red Star won promotion to Ligue 2 in France last summer for the first time in six years. However, he opted to not renew his contract at the club earlier this summer, reportedly due to concerns over the club’s project.

Despite being linked with a number of roles, including in France’s top-flight, Beye remains without a job and has turned down the opportunity to manage Senegal, according to L’Equipe.

Beye was capped 45 times by Senegal during his playing career, but reportedly doesn’t feel that an international role is the right thing for his career. Beye made 54 appearances during his two years as a Newcastle United player.

Matty Longstaff offers staunch Sean Longstaff defence

Matty Longstaff believes that his brother Sean is made a ‘scapegoat’ at Newcastle United and gets underserved ‘stick’ from supporters. Matty, who made his Premier League debut in a midfield pairing alongside Sean during their 1-0 win over Manchester United in October 2019, one he would net a memorable winner in, is currently playing in the MLS with Toronto FC.

Speaking to The Athletic the 24-year-old launched a staunch defence of his older brother, stating: “I’m so proud of everything Sean has achieved. He gets stick from certain fans at times, which he doesn’t deserve, and he’s made a scapegoat.

“But look at the games he’s played, the goals he’s scored in big games, and how mentally strong he is. I’ve always looked up to him and even more so now. I don’t think people understand the pressures of being the homegrown kid.”

After bursting onto the scene at St James’ Park under Steve Bruce, Matty eventually signed a new contract with his boyhood club in 2020 amid interest from Europe in his services. However, he was not afforded too many opportunities to play in the first-team and saw his career on Tyneside stall.
