Police give update after a man dies in A19 crash near Jarrow

Hide AdAn investigation is underway after emergency services were called to a report that a grey Ford Mondeo had been involved in a collision on the A19 southbound, near Jarrow cemetery.
A 42-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, with officers confirming on Monday, April 19, that both have been released from custody under investigation.
Those arrested were travelling in another vehicle on the A19 at the same time of the collision.

Hide AdEnquiries into the circumstances behind how the vehicle came off road are ongoing.
Police have also confirmed the 26-year-old man’s next of kin has been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the crash to get in touch with them.

Hide AdSgt Craig Bartle, of Northumbria Police, said: “We would like any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who was travelling south through the Tyne Tunnel at around the time of the collision to get in touch.
"Please check your dashcam footage and let us know if you saw a Ford Mondeo on Saturday night at around 10.20pm in the area where the collision occurred.
"Even if you did not witness the collision, we would like to see any moments leading up to the collision to help us determine what happened.
