Durham Police are recruiting - here's the starting salary and the qualifications required

A major drive to recruit new officers to one of the top-performing police forces in the country will begin at the end of the month.

Applications to join Durham Constabulary as a police constable open on Friday, May 29, with potential new recruits having until 5pm on Friday, June 12, to submit their application.

The force are looking for individuals who are hardworking, relish a challenge, can apply common sense and who possess a minimum of two A-levels.

In conjunction with Northumbria University, recruits will study towards a degree in professional policing practice as part of a three-year training programme while working as a police officer.

University fees will be paid for by the force and students will be paid police officers from day one, with a starting salary of £24,177.

Graduates who apply may be able to complete a two-year shortened diploma course.

The recruitment drive is part of a national campaign aiming to recruit 20,000 new police officers over the next three years.

Successful candidates will join the force from January 2021.

Assistant Chief Officer Gary Ridley said: “We are looking for motivated individuals to join a high-performing organisation.“Policing is a challenging role and we would like to hear from all sections of the community.

“During your time as a probationer constable you will see operational aspects of the force.

“We are looking for people who can make a difference.”

The force is also keen to hear from applicants from underrepresented and diverse groups.

Steve White, Acting Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner, said: “As a police officer, you will be expected to run towards danger when others are running away.

“It’s a role which brings immense responsibility but also a huge reward in contributing to keeping the people of the Durham Force area safe.

“As one of the top forces in the country I am looking for top people from all walks of life to join the service.”
