The Futureheads announce big hometown Sunderland show for evening of conversation, stories and song
Their anthems have become a soundtrack for Sunderland.
Sunderland sons The Futureheads are promising a special evening of conversation, stories and song as they announce their latest show.

Hosted by Sunderland Music City ‘An Evening with The Futureheads’ will take place on Saturday, June 20 at The Fire Station on the penultimate day of Sunderland Year of Music.
The event also forms part of Summit Week Sunderland, the wraparound programme for the Music Cities Network Summer Summit.
Taking place in the UK for the first time, the summit welcomes music leaders from across the globe to Sunderland for a landmark moment in its cultural journey.
The event will offer audiences a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of Sunderland’s most influential bands, hosted by Sunderland Music City’s own Frankie Francis.
It will feature band members Barry Hyde, Ross Millard, David 'Jaff' Craig and Dave Hyde in conversation about their journey from Sunderland’s local music scene to international acclaim.
Audiences can expect candid conversation, behind-the-scenes stories, reflections on the changing music industry, and insights into the band’s enduring connection to Sunderland.
Since emerging in the early 2000s, The Futureheads have become one of the UK’s most distinctive bands, earning critical acclaim for their post-punk sound, unmistakable harmonies, and energetic live performances.
Their career has included chart success, major festival appearances, and a string of celebrated releases that have cemented their place in British music.
The event forms part of Sunderland Music City’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the city’s musical heritage while inspiring future generations of artists and audiences.
Michelle Daurat, CEO of Sunderland Music City said: “The Futureheads are one of Sunderland’s great musical success stories, and friends of Sunderland Music City.
“This event is a chance to celebrate not only their incredible career, but also the city’s vibrant scene, and the influence Sunderland continues to have on artists nationally and internationally.”
The Futureheads said: “We’re delighted to have been asked to go ‘in conversation’ at the Fire Station as part of the Sunderland Music City Summit Week and the finale of the Sunderland Year of Music.
“It will be a rare opportunity to look back at the last 20+ years, dig out some unseen photographs, tell some tour stories and go through the albums with Frankie.
“We’ll talk about the local music scene that shaped us, how things have changed in the industry over the years, and have a relaxed play through some of the hits.”
