Sunderland are two points behind second-placed Peterborough United with a game in hand over Posh and a fixture to play against Darren Ferguson’s side.

The Black Cats also just three points behind league-leaders Hull City with two games in hand over Grant McCann’s club and a match to play against the Tigers.

Anichebe, commenting on Instagram, had this four-word plea to his old club ahead of the run-in.

He said: “Keep it going guys!”
