As with the 8-1 win over Aston Villa u21s in the opening fixture, Parkinson will blend that youthful core with a handful of experienced players in need of minutes to boost their match fitness.
We take you through the XI we expect to see feature as the Black Cats look to build on a strong start...
9. LCM - MAX POWER
Power missed out on Saturday after his hamstring injury, and including him here would have the double benefit of topping up his match fitness and bringing some experience to the team. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
10. ST - CHARLIE WYKE
Wyke has dropped down the pecking order this season, so often the first choice last time out.
He used the last EFL Trophy game to good effect, scoring twice to press his claims.
Parkinson will hope he can do something similar here. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
11. Other calls to make
Phil Parkinson will also have some other decisions to make, which are worth keeping an eye out for Photo: FRANK REID 2020
12. Will Grigg
Grigg is another senior player who needs minutes to stay sharp ahead of the international break.
One option for Parkinson would be to go with two up top, given both Grigg and Wyke the chance to impress and get their match fitness up. Power or one of the other midfielders could then be used from the bench as and when needed. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
