As with the 8-1 win over Aston Villa u21s in the opening fixture, Parkinson will blend that youthful core with a handful of experienced players in need of minutes to boost their match fitness.
We take you through the XI we expect to see feature as the Black Cats look to build on a strong start...
13. Benji Kimpioka
This would ordinarily be the perfect chance for Kimpioka to shine.
However, he has had little pre-season and so it was a big step to play 90 minutes in the U23s on Monday.
That makes it unlikely he'll be involved here, even from the bench, but it won't have gone unnoticed by Parkinson that he produced a brace in a crucial win against Newcastle United. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
14. Elliot Embleton
Embleton needs U23/Trophy minutes after almst a year out with injury before he can push his senior claims.
However, he hasn't been able to do that yet due to what Parkinson has described as 'niggling' injuries. That's a major frustration and looks likely to prevent his involvement here. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
15. Chris Maguire
Phil Parkinson has confirmed that the forward is available for selection, and has hinted at some role ahead of the international break. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
