Sunderland's new predicted final Premier League finish after Arsenal defeat

The stats experts at Opta have delivered their latest predicted final Premier League table.

Sunderland were unable to build on last weekend’s hard-earned point at Brentford as they fell to a home defeat against Premier League champions Arsenal on Saturday night.

The result does not match the performance produced by Regis Le Bris’ side as they hassled, harried and pressed their visitors throughout an energetic 90-minute display that offered further indication the Black Cats will continue to trouble the leading lights in English football’s top tier.

After going toe-to-toe with the Gunners for almost an hour, Sunderland fell behind when former Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes came off the bench to fire home a stunning first goal of the game before a last-gasp penalty from England international Bukayo Saka ended any doubt over the destination of the points.

Sunderland had their chances throughout an impressive display - but they were unable to claim any reward and they will be sitting in the bottom half of the table as they now turn their focus towards their historic Europa League opener against AZ Alkmaar in midweek before returning to league action at Manchester City next Sunday afternoon.

But where are Sunderland predicted to finish in this season’s Premier League table? We take a look at the latest predicted final table pieced together by the stats experts at Opta.
