The Black Cats will be looking to make new additions ahead of next season, while some players are set to leave the club before the start of the next campaign.
We’ve taken a closer look at every Sunderland player’s situation – including the players who are out on loan - and what to expect this summer.
17. Edouard Michut
Sunderland have an option to make the midfielder’s loan deal from PSG permanent this summer. Following some impressive recent displays, it seems increasingly likely the Black Cats will trigger that clause. Photo: Frank Reid
18. Jay Matete
With the 22-year-old under contract at Sunderland until 2026, the Black Cats will hope Matete can challenge for a first-team place when he returns from a loan spell at Plymouth. The club will assess what is best for the midfielder’s development at the end of this season. Photo: Frank Reid
19. Elliot Embleton
Another academy graduate who signed a long-term contract until 2025 last season. The 23-year-old is returning from a long-term injury setback so the club will hope he can return for pre-season and challenge for a first-team place. Photo: Frank Reid
20. Pierre Ekwah
Another January signing who is yet to start for the first team. Sunderland will assess what is best for the 21-year-old’s development in the summer, after Ekwah signed a deal until 2027 on Wearside. A loan move may be an option if his game time remains limited. Photo: SAFC
