Sunderland's squad value compared to Premier League rivals ahead of maiden Europa League season
Sunderland's squad value compared to Arsenal, Manchester City and other rivals across the Premier League.
Sunderland are preparing for another big summer transfer window as they look to boost Regis Le Bris’ squad ahead of a first ever venture into the Europa League.
Last season’s seventh placed finish in the Premier League ensured the Black Cats qualified for European competition for only the second time in their history and the first time since Bob Stokoe’s FA Cup heroes of 1973 took part in the Cup Winners’ Cup during the following season. The foundations for what was a remarkable campaign last time out were put in place during last summer’s transfer window as the Sunderland ranks were completely transformed by arguably the most ambitious recruitment drive in the club’s recent history.
There were club record deals for midfield duo Enzo Le Fee and Habib Diarra, a La Liga star was captured in the form of Getafe defender Omar Alderete and highly-rated Dutch duo Robin Roefs and Brian Brobbey were snapped up. Perhaps the most ambitious deal came when former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka was persuaded to return to the Premier League after enjoying a remarkable spell with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
