Sunderland boss issues Thomas Meunier and Wilson Isidor injury update ahead of Brentford clash
Sunderland return to action on home turf in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night
Régis Le Bris is hopeful that Thomas Meunier will be able to make his return from injury in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
Meunier has been absent since picking up a hamstring injury in the first half of the 2-0 defeat to Brighton a fortnight ago, but resumed some individual work at the Academy of Light last week. The Belgian will not be risked from the start against Brentford and a final decision will only be made depending on how he trains on Monday and Tuesday, but the head coach is hopeful he'll be able to introduce him from the bench.
That would be a major boost for the Black Cats with crunch Premier League games against Coventry City and Chelsea following before the international break in November.
"Probably Thomas will be available coming off the bench, we'll decide based on training on Monday and Tuesday," Le Bris said after the 0-0 draw with Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.

Le Bris added that a late call will also be made on Wilson Isidor, who has been absent since picking up a knock of his own in that Brighton defeat. Like Meunier, Isidor was back doing some running at the Academy of Light last week.
"For Wilson, we are just on the edge [so we'll see]," Le Bris said.
Isidor might be more likely to return against Coventry City on Saturday, with Timur Tutierov and Juan Riquelme both expected to be in the squad at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday (7.45pm KO).
