Sunderland have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after a second round defeat on penalties to Huddersfield Town.
Marc Guiu’s first Sunderland goal have levelled the game after Leo Castledine’s brilliant opener, but Milan Aleksic’s miss secured a 6-5 win on penalties for the League One visitors. Here’s how we rated all 14 of the Black Cats to feature in the contest..

5. LB - Harrison Jones
His delivery from the left was a little inconsistent as you’d expect on his weaker foot, but stuck at his task and kept driving forward. A threat in the second half. 6 | Photo by Chris Fryatt.

6. CM - Dan Neil
Had a quiet first half with Sunderland struggling to create, but far sharper after the break when Sunderland reverted to a more familiar 4-3-3 shape. Swept up well and moved the ball tidily as Sunderland eventually dominated. One brillaint block late in the first half kept his team in the game. 6 | Getty Images

7. CM - Chris Rigg
One wicked first-half cross almost yielded an own goal. Looked much more comfortable after the formation switch at half time. Execution wasn’t always perfect but his energy was key to getting Sunderland back into the contest. 6 | Getty Images

8. LW - Enzo Le Fee
Much livelier in the second half and drew one good save with an excellent free kick, but will be disappointed he didn’t stamp more of an authority on this game. Passing was a little wayward in the first half. 5 | Sunderland's Enzo Le Fee. Photo by Chris Fryatt.
