Sunderland fans raise £3.5k to support Remembrance Day display at Stadium of Light

Sunderland flag group This is Wearside (TIW) have raised £3,500 ahead of Remembrance Day.

TIW is now working with the club on fan displays at the Stadium of Light and has acquired the stock of displays and flags from the previous group, The Spirit of 37 (SO37). TIW produced a highly successful full-stadium display against Middlesbrough last weekend.

SO37 are no longer involved in flag displays at the Stadium of Light, though they remain active on social media. The two groups, however, are completely separate from one another. However, TIW are planning another display for Remembrance Day on the 9th of November and set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds.

The target for the display was £3,500, which has now been met ahead of the game against Coventry City at the Stadium of Light.

“We are thrilled to announce our plans for a special stadium display for the match against Coventry on 9th November 2024, in honour of Remembrance Day. This display will be our second major project, and while we're keeping the exact details under wraps for now, we are confident it will be a powerful and memorable tribute,” TIW’s page reads.

“But we need your support to make this vision a reality. The cost of materials for this display is significant, and we are asking for your help to bring it to life. Our goal is to raise £3,500 to cover these expenses and create a display that truly honours the occasion. This is a substantial investment for a community-driven initiative, and we simply can't do it without you. We are incredibly grateful for any contribution, no matter how big or small. Your generosity will directly fund the materials needed to create this special display.
