Sunderland fell to a 2-1 defeat against Bristol City after playing over 80 minutes with ten men.
Trai Hume was shown a hugely controversial early red card for a professional foul, but Eliezer Mayenda scored a sensational individual goal later in the half. Goals from Rob Dickie and Ross McCrorie turned the game around in the second half. Here’s how we rated the Black Cats....

9. Enzo Le Fee
Started the game really brightly, seeing a lot of the ball and getting Sunderland going. The red card meant he then really couldn’t impose himself on the game but made good decisions and grafted for the team. Did play a tired pass in build up to equaliser. 6 | James Copley

10. Tommy Watson
Tough game for him with Sunderland not really seeing any possession in advanced areas, but didn’t really hold the ball up as well as his team would have liked in the circumstances. 5 | Tommy Watson - player rating photo by James Copley

11. Eliezer Mayenda
Really top draw in the first half. Scored a stunning individual goal as he ran from his own half to convert, and almost teed Roberts up for another with a superb bit of play. Couldn’t have the same level of influence in the second half but another statement showing from the youngster whose case to start is increasingly hard to ignore. 8 | Eliezer Mayenda - player rating photo by James Copley

12. Jobe Bellingham
Understandably a little off the pace on his return from injury. His clearance ran for McCrorie for the winner but valuable minutes under his belt. 5 | Jobe Bellingham - player rating photo by James Copley
