Sunderland academy duo complete non-league loan moves
Two Sunderland youngsters have secured loan moves to a local non-league club.
Sunderland have confirmed Under-21s duo Isaac Allan and Jake Waters have joined Northern Premier League neighbours Hebburn Town on loan for the remainder of the season.
As exclusively revealed by The Echo earlier, both players were closing in on temporary moves to the Northern Premier League Premier Division title contenders. The move for Allan, who has spent time on loan at Whitby Town and Morpeth Town this season, comes after the Black Cats recalled Dan Cameron from a successful spell at Hebburn as as The Echo reported he is now expected to step into the National League with a similar move to Boston United.
Hornets goalkeeper coach Carl Morris revealed the club had been monitoring Allan’s progress throughout the campaign as he told the club website: “We are delighted to welcome Isaac to the club. We have been keeping an eye on his progress over the last year and after playing against us twice already this season we have been impressed on both occasions. Once again thank you to Sunderland for their assistance and trust with one of their goalkeepers.”
Allan has been joined at the Trustmark Group Stadium by Black Cats academy team-mate Waters as he embarks on his second loan stint of the season after spending time with National League North club Spennymoor Town earlier in the campaign. The 20-year-old has scored five goals in 10 appearances for Sunderland’s Under-21s this season and will now hope to help fire Hebburn to a historic promotion into the National League North between now and the end of the season.
Key time

Speaking about the capture of the striker, Hornets manager Daniel Moore said: "We nearly had Jake join us in January so I’m pleased to get it done at such a key time in the season. We have needed another out and out centre forward and that’s what we get with Jake and I really think he will suit how we play. Again thank you to Sunderland for trusting us with the two lads we have coming in."
Allen will be available to make his Hornets bow in Tuesday night’s home game with Stocksbridge Park Steels if FA and league clearance is received - but Hebburn have confirmed Waters will have to wait until they host Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday to make his bow.
