Dan Cameron set for National League move as two more Sunderland youngsters near loan switches
Sunderland goalkeeper Dan Cameron is closing in on a move to Boston United in the National League, The Echo understands, after being recalled from his loan spell at Hebburn Town.
The 20-year-old’s return from South Tyneside was confirmed earlier this week, but the recall was made with a higher-level opportunity in mind. Cameron had been expected to remain with Northern Premier League promotion hopefuls Hebburn for the rest of the season. However, the chance to step up two divisions has now emerged, with Boston’s interest offering valuable exposure at National League level and a clear rise in standard.
Cameron impressed during his time with the Hornets, who currently sit second in the Northern Premier League and are firmly in the hunt for promotion to the National League North. Hebburn had planned for him to stay between the sticks for the run-in, but Sunderland opted to activate the recall to facilitate the move to a higher level.
Despite the change, the relationship between Sunderland and Hebburn remains strong. The Echo understands that the Hornets, managed by Daniel Moore, are closing in on a replacement in the form of Sunderland goalkeeper Issac Allan. The 18-year-old, who previously spent time at Lincoln City and has featured on loan at Whitby Town this season, is expected to join Hebburn Town as they continue their promotion push.

Meanwhile, The Echo understands that Sunderland striker Jake Waters is also nearing a loan move to Hebburn Town alongside Allan. The 20-year-old poacher spent a month on loan at Spennymoor Town in the National League North earlier this season but could now gain experience in the Northern Premier League as Moore looks to strengthen his attacking options for the decisive final months.
Hebburn’s position near the summit means there is plenty at stake in the coming weeks, and Sunderland’s academy pathway once again appears closely aligned with the non-league scene on Wearside and beyond. A move would represent an important next step for Waters in particular, following his return from two ACL injuries, as he looks to build momentum with regular senior football.
