Power won two promotions from League One in his previous spell at the DW Stadium, before joining Sunderland for a six-figure sum in the summer of 2018.

He was captain as the team lifted the Papa John’s Trophy at Wembley earlier this year, but was released after the club fell short of winning promotion at the third time of asking.

The 27-year-old has now sealed his return and is reunited with manager Leam Richardson who was assistant to Paul Cook in his previous spell.

“I’m over the moon,” Power said.

“Coming back here today has brought back some great memories, and I’m just delighted that the deal is done.

“I’ve always kept an eye on the Club, and I always felt that I would return one day so to be back here is a great feeling.

“I’m really excited. I’ve seen who has come through the door already, and I think the Club has made some really good signings, which shows the intent is there.

“I’m coming back here to hopefully create more memories and I can’t wait to get back to the DW Stadium.”

Leam Richardson said: “Max is a great lad who I really enjoyed working with the first time around. He is fantastic in the dressing room, and a great character to have around the place.

“He still has a lot to offer, he can play a number of different positions as he did during his last spell, and we are delighted to have him back at Wigan Athletic.”
