Grigg was expected to be involved ahead of the international break, but Phil Parkinson has revealed that the Northern Irishman picked up an injury in training on Monday.

Parkinson says he will be assessed over the international break.

“Griggy had a clash of shins in training yesterday and has been for an x-ray today,” Parkinson said.

"We’ll continue to assess him over the international break.’

Despite making eight changes from the side that drew with Charlton Athletic on Saturday, Parkinson has named a strong side for the contest.

The Black Cats have an extended break after the game, and could all but seal their place in the next round with a win at the Stadium of Light.

An experienced side also features youngsters Dan Neil, Jack Diamond and Brandon Taylor.

Oliver Younger is on the bench.
