Sunderland enjoyed a productive pair of games, the only side to take maximum points from their two fixtures. At the other end of the scale, Southend were the only team not to pick up any points from their games as the pressure begins to mount on Kevin Bond. And the crisis at the bottom of the league worsened, as Phil Smith explains in his power rankings….
9. 16. Portsmouth (-11)
On paper they comfortably had the toughest fixtures this week and a narrow defeat to Sunderland, as well as a draw with a good Coventry City side, is hardly a sign of crisis. But to lose a two-goal advantage to a side playing with nine on home turf has raised alarm bells given how impressive they were defensively last season. Much work to do. Photo: Bryn Lennon
10. 15. Bristol Rovers (+2)
Aided significantly by seeing Tranmere have two players sent off, but up and running after scoring their first two goals of the campaign. Relieves some early pressure and gives them a platform to build on, even if questions over the dependance on Jonson Clarke-Harris remain. Photo: Alex Burstow
11. 14. Rochdale (-5)
One point from two games sees them drop down the rankings but maintain this level of performance, and they will quickly climb back up. Consistently dominating the ball, home and away, against good opposition, they will surely have a good season if these showings are anything to go by. Photo: George Wood
12. 13. MK Dons (-1)
Fell to a frustrating defeat against Wycombe Wanderers but they will be far from the last to suffer that fate. Roared back with an impressive win over Lincoln City, even if the early pacesetters enjoyed much the better of the game. Took their chances and so look in decent order early on. Photo: Pete Norton
