Sunderland enjoyed a productive pair of games, the only side to take maximum points from their two fixtures. At the other end of the scale, Southend were the only team not to pick up any points from their games as the pressure begins to mount on Kevin Bond. And the crisis at the bottom of the league worsened, as Phil Smith explains in his power rankings….
5. 20. AFC Wimbledon (-2)
Should have taken three points against Accrington Stanley and suffered last-minute heartbreak away at Ipswich Town on Tuesday night, losing after being a goal up at the break. Face a tricky trip to Sunderland on Saturday as they search for their first win. Photo: Ker Robertson
6. 19. Gillingham (-3)
Saturday's clash with Bury was postponed, and as they surged into a two-goal lead at home ot Blackpool, it looked like they might secure the result of the night. They were level again by the break, and though it was a more than creditable point, a first win under Steve Evans remains elusive. Photo: Bryn Lennon
7. 18. Tranmere Rovers (+3)
Took advantage of Bolton's woes to get off the mark for the campaign with a thumping victory. A disappointing defeat to a thus far underperforming Bristol Rovers side served as a quick reality check, though playing with nine for much of the second half hardly helped. Photo: Lewis Storey
8. 17. Oxford United (-11)
Defeat against Blackpool did little to alter the surging optimism at the club, given the level of performance and the subsequent signing of Bristol City striker Matty Taylor, previously prolific at this level. They were leading Burton but ended up losing comfortably, with Karl Robinson taking responsibility for a poor double substitution. A bad pair of games, even if there is still plenty to suggest they will climb the table. Photo: Harry Trump
