Eight of the top ten secured wins, with a number of dominant performances. The only two sides not to win, Doncaster and Coventry City, played out a predictably tight draw that underlined the poise with which both sides have started the campaign. At the top, there were some big results for Portsmouth and Accrington Stanley, who bounced back from some concerning results with key wins. Here, Phil Smith runs through the results as usual to try and identify some of the key trends in the division...
17. 7. Peterborough United (No change)
That they have three of the top four scorers in the decision says everything about their continuing attacking threat. This 3-2 win over AFC Wimbledon could and should have been more comfortable. That they haven't moved up the table just underlines how well teams at the top performed across the fixtures. Photo: Ker Robertson
18. 6. Doncaster Rovers (-3)
Showed plenty of defensive resilience to almost snatch a win against Coventry City, though in truth the SKy Blues deserved their late equaliser. Ben Whiteman, the outstanding midfielder in this division, again impressed and is leading from the front. Photo: George Wood
19. 5. Coventry City (-3)
Showed good character to get a point late on against Doncaster, in a game they played well in. Still unbeaten in the league, but five draws means they are ever so slightly off the pace being set by Ipswich. Photo: Morgan Harlow
20. 4. Sunderland (+2)
An excellent week for the Black Cats, who bounced back strongly from their acrimonious afternoon at Bolton Wanderers. Dumped SHeffield United out of the cup and deserved their win against MK Dons, even if they could have made it easier for themselves. Strong performances from Joel Lynch and Laurens De Bock have come as a huge boost. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
