Jamie Carragher predicts five-goal Sunderland thriller as he picks winner against Leeds United

Jamie Carragher has made his prediction for Sunderland’s Premier League meeting with Leeds United at the Stadium of Light

Jamie Carragher has backed Leeds United to beat Sunderland in a five-goal contest at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

The former Liverpool defender predicted a 3-2 away victory when making his selections for Sky Sports’ Super 6, tipping Daniel Farke’s side to take all three points on Wearside. Carragher described the upcoming round of fixtures as “cracking”, with his Sunderland prediction suggesting an entertaining afternoon for supporters but another disappointing result for Régis Le Bris.

The Black Cats entered their midweek Europa League trip to Lech Poznań bottom of the Premier League, having collected four points from their opening seven matches. Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth was their fourth successive league loss, leaving Le Bris seeking a response against Leeds. Sunderland’s record stood at one win, one draw and five defeats, with their only league victory coming against Fulham in August.

Leeds, meanwhile, approached the fixture following a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Elland Road. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored their equaliser after Bryan Mbeumo had put the visitors ahead. Farke’s team occupied seventh place ahead of their trip north, presenting another test for a Sunderland side looking to recover confidence and momentum.

Le Bris also had selection issues to consider. Kevin Danso was due to serve a one-match domestic suspension following his dismissal at Bournemouth, although he remained eligible to play in Europe. Carragher’s forecast would extend Sunderland’s losing league run to five matches. For Le Bris, overturning that prediction would provide a boost before another busy fixture schedule.
