Ex-Sunderland boss Jack Ross is close to a reunion with Marc McNulty with the striker having a medical at Hibernian.

The 27-year-old is expected to sign a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Scotsman report: “It brings to an end protracted talks. Matters had been complicated by the Black Cats’ initial reluctance to let the Scotland cap go and it is understood that parent club Reading then tried to play hard ball over how big a percentage of his wages they will have to pay while he is in the capital.

“But the player has now undergone a medical and the deal will be completed before tonight's [11pm] transfer deadline.”

Sunderland will replace him with Antoine Semenyo, the striker set to arrive on a loan deal from Bristol City until the end of the season.
