The Black Cats took an early lead, courtesy of an own goal from Dean Lewington.

Aiden McGeady then doubled his side’s lead deep into the second half with a low effort, before fellow substitute Charlie Wyke chipped in with his 16th goal of the campaign to book the Wearsiders' place in the final four of the competition.
