Sunderland secured a seventh place finish in last season’s Premier League to qualify for the Europa League.

Sunderland enjoyed a fantastic 2025/26 Premier League campaign, and a look at last season's xG makes the club's achievement even more impressive.

The Black Cats came back into the top tier alongside the likes of Leeds United and Burnley, with all three newly-promoted sides predicted to return to the Championship. But it was fairly obvious by the middle part of the season that Sunderland were destined for greater things as they continued to impress, especially at the Stadium of Light.

In the end, it was a remarkable finish of seventh for Régis Le Bris' men as they qualified for the Europa League. This marks their first return to European competition in over 50 years.
