Gateshead saved as takeover by US-based investment group now imminent
There was some big news from National League club Gateshead on Thursday night.
Gateshead’s future has been secured after a US-based investment group moved to the brink of finalising a takeover at the National League club.
There were major concerns over the Heed’s long-term future after players went unpaid for the month of September and the threat of a winding-up order from HMRC loomed large. However, the Flacks Group, who have assets worth in excess of $7bn, agreed an initial deal with club shareholders just over a month ago and appeared to have set the Tynesiders on the right path.
However, a lingering dispute between shareholders and the Shoreline Group, who tried to complete their own takeover at the International Stadium last year, threatened to derail Flacks Group’s own deal. After a flurry of talks over the last week, an agreement has been brokered and Flacks Group have now confirmed only approval from the Independent Football Regulator stands in the way of the completion of a deal that can herald the start of a new era for the Heed. The Gateshead Supporters Society, who are shareholders in the club, expressed their delight over the news and revealed they are looking forward to working with their club’s new owners.
