Leeds and ex-Newcastle United boss 'considered' by Tottenham, Magpies youngster 'close' to joining Championship club

Tottenham Hotspur are considering ex-Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez as their next manager, while the North London club also have eyes for Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa.

That’s according to Football Insider, who claims Spurs are eyeing candidates with experience of succeeding in the top-flight.

Benitez has been out of work since the turn of the year after leaving Dalian Pro and is said to be keen on the job, which was vacated by Jose Mourinho last month.

Bielsa is out of contract at Elland Road but is open to signing a new deal. Ex-Magpies captain Scott Parker has also been linked.

Newcastle youngster close to Birmingham move – reports

Newcastle United youngster Josh Home is reportedly on the verge of joining Birmingham City.

BirminghamLive reports that the attacking midfielder has agreed a two-year scholarship with the Championship outfit following a successful trial.

Home is claimed to have been on the Blues’ radar “for a number of years”.

The 15-year-old also had interest from elsewhere, including Aberdeen, Grimsby Town and Lincoln City.

Toon could face Peterborough in pre-season

Peterborough United could face Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly in Portugal, according to chairman Darragh MacAnthony

Darren Ferguson’s side are preparing for life back in the Championship after sealing automatic promotion from League One.

Newcastle, meanwhile, will get ready for another season of Premier League football after securing survival earlier this week.

MacAnthony said on his Hard Truth Podcast: “Portugal in July, I think we’re possibly playing Newcastle, we’re talking to them at the moment. So we’ll have a couple of games in Portugal.”
