'He's walking into a big club': This is why Danny Rose was sold on Newcastle United move

Former Sunderland defender Danny Rose “didn’t take much persuading” to join Newcastle United.

Steve Bruce today spoke about Rose, the club’s third and final loan signing.

And Doncaster-born Rose – who started his career at Leeds United and spent the 2012/13 season on loan at Sunderland – was quickly sold on a move to Newcastle.

“He was playing for England in a World Cup qualifier in September, and playing in the European Cup before that, so we're delighted to get him,” said Bruce, United's head coach.

“He's a top player, the kid, and is arguably as good a left-back as there is in England. That's why he plays for the national team – and has played for them so well.

“To get somebody of that quality, were delighted to get him. The big thing is moving up north suited him, which makes a rare change, I have to tell you. But it was good to get him through the door.

“Look, he's a northern lad. Little things like that are a bit of an advantage. He didn't take much persuading.

“I reminded him of the crowd last week against Oxford, and he knows he's walking into a big football club with a huge fanbase, and somewhere where he can come and enjoy himself, hopefully, for three or four months and we'll see where that takes us in the summer.”
