Trippier revealed after the club’s 1-0 win over Fulham that he had suffered a “massive cut” on his right foot in a challenge with Bobby Decordova-Reid which led to a penalty being awarded to the visitors.

And Howe was asked for an update on Trippier – who has been captaining the team this season – ahead of tomorrow’s game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Asked if Trippier would be available for the game, United’s head coach said: "Fingers crossed, yeah."

Howe – who lost midfielder Bruno Guimaraes to an ankle injury against Fulham – was asked if he had any other injury concerns ahead of the Palace game. Howe said: "Yeah, we had a few knocks this week, different little things, but Bruno’s was the main one to come out of the game. Apart from that, we’re OK.”
