Pub lovers in the Hendon area of Sunderland once had all of these locals to choose from.
All nine of them are no longer open and Sunderland Antiquarian Society has shared details of them with us.
To find out more, the Antiquarian Society’s base in Douro Terrace is open between 9.30am and noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
1. A host of Hendon hostelries
A great choice of locals for Hendon people back in the day.
2. The Alma
The Alma was named after a Crimean War battle. The Hendon pub was open until 1960.
4. The Divan
The Divan was in Hendon Road and ran from 1871 to 1963. It was known as Little's because the licensee for many years was Tommy Little.
